WRESTLEMANIA WEEK REVIEW #2

We’re in Las Vegas, Nevada. I was supposed to watch this live but overslept. Luckily, it’s up quickly on Triller replays section so let’s fucking go. Show two! Nine matches on tap here. DGUSA only had six matches, and it was still over two hours. Let’s hope we can keep things brisk here. This show followed DGUSA. I worry about the late shows as the crowd tend to get tired.

Backseat Boyz vs. Jordan Oliver & Ryan O’Neill vs. Joey Janela & Effy

Backseat Boyz are cornered by Angel Orsini the “ECW original”. You probably remember her as Prodigette. Which is a name I’ve not heard in a long time.

Oliver and O’Neill avoid the stairs after Alec Price injured himself on them a few hours ago. Janela’s face is very red for some reason and I can’t overlook it. This match has a lot of ‘stuff’ in it. Only Janela decides to slap his thigh during it, which is an odd choice. I know I said someone should rip off the T-Gimmick as a finish, but you didn’t need to do the whole gimmick brothers. I’m right about the crowd being drained as almost none of this cavalcade of spots gets a reaction. T-Gimmick finishes the bird kid. **

Hybrid Women’s Championship

Ruthie Jay (c) vs. Brittnie Brooks vs. Jazmin Allure vs. Mia Friday

That women’s belt is ENORMOUS. Ruthie comes out wearing it and it’s about a third the size of her. Two heels here; Jay and Allure. Brittnie feels like she should be a heel, and Mia Friday is Willow levels of babyface. Kiera Hogan is the referee, for some reason. They switch in and out here, leaving two participants on the floor. Mia is the stand out with some rope springing and taking head shots like a champ. Ruthie Jay is clearly the best worker of the four. She’s so much smoother and her movement around the ring is better. Ruthie gets into an argument with Hogan and Mia Friday rolls her up for the belt. **¼. This was fine. Occasionally it went a bit wonky, but they got their characters over.

BLK OUT (JGeorge & Robby Illuminati) & Face vs. VNDL48 (Atticus Cogar, Christian Napier & Otis Cogar)

A feud between two stables that hate vowels here. THY HT THM. No Ruckus here but they have a manager called “Skillz Da Great”. I know this because he has his name on the back of his shirt. BLK OUT with their snappy white suits are looking dapper but naturally those end up covered in blood. JGeorge busted wide open. Worse for JGeorge is that he fucks his leg up and can barely move in the ring. Which is a key component of pro-wrestling. Generally, people who cannot move do not succeed.

The injury basically derails the match as he’s hobbling around while everyone else works around him. JGeorge keeps taking the spots here despite him being unable to move. Matt Tremont runs in to stop Face getting creamed with a chair shot and the match just ends? Huh. ¾*

Matt Tremont vs. Gangrel

Dave Heath does the blood spit and everything. If you like watching two old guys punch each other, this is for you. Tremont spears Gangrel through a door and splashes him for the win. Great match, no notes. **½

Channing Decker, Corazon, Juni Underwood & Simon Gotch vs. Billy Gold, Kid Legend & LiveDanger (Danger Ross & LiveWire Charlie)

LiveDanger doing an Ultimate Warrior, if he was a tag team, gimmick is a choice.

The match is a mess but at least “BOOM, BOOM, FIREPOWER” happens. It’s pretty clear this is where they dumped the guys who were promised a spot Mania weekend. Go and get your shit in, lads. Ross powerslams Corazon for the win. No one cares. LiveDanger are a fun gimmick. I’ll give them that. *¼

Silver Skywalker Championship

Deklan Grant (c) vs. Angel Orsini vs. Tarzan Duran vs. Jazmyne Hao vs. Angel Metro vs. JJ Doze vs. Don Freeze vs. Mickie Knuckles

Back to back scramble crap. Not ideal. Oh hey, we promised 18 people they could work Mania weekend. There are way too many people involved here with limited ideas. Even when we get ideas, they’re either stupid or awful. Freeze hitting a multiple rotation backdrop driver only to back bump and have Hao land on top of him is particularly dumb.

The crowd are absolutely dead too as they take it in turns to do stuff. Tarzan Duran looks like a decent talent. I’ve never seen him before. However, he gets all fired up for a dive and whoever was supposed to take it is not in position. There’s a lot of that. A lot of standing around. It is wild seeing Angel Orsini hit a moonsault to the floor at the tender age of 56 though.

Champion Deklan Grant barely features. However, he does rock up to smash half a door over Mickie’s head, choke her out with a plastic bag and hit a piledriver to retain. That’s definitely a finish btw lads. You cannot continue after that. *

Thomas Shire vs. 1 Called Manders

THE COWBOY WAY COLLIDE! “51% motherfucker and 41% son of a bitch” is fucking great, lads. I’m all in on Big Tommy Shire.

Manders was supposed to be wrestling PCO, but he’s not here. No idea why. These two lads have been put in a spot, so they opt to tattoo the fuck out of each other. Shire’s chest is beet red inside a minute. It’s a shame the crowd is so tired because they beat each other pretty good here, and no one really gives a hoot. Manders whacks Shire with a lariat and a tired 1:30AM crowd gets to its feet to give them their props. ***¼ Best match of the weekend so far. Could easily contend overall. Some great big man stuff from Shire and hard hitting business from Manders. I loved Shire overhand chopping Manders right on his big bald head.

PWU Women’s Championship

Priscilla Kelly vs. Lacey Lane vs. Mercedes Martinez

Kiera Hogan is the referee again here, having done a solid job earlier on. Given the former WWE status of all these wrestlers, it’s interesting to see the Indies recovering from the 2020 mass talent signups. They struggle to get on the same page early doors. It’s all a bit slow and nothing lands. Martinez is much better in one-on-one situations, throwing the others around. Kelly seems particularly off it. Mercedes plants Kelly with a spinebuster for the win. This was sometimes decent but not often. *¾

PWU World Championship

Pat Dynamite (c) vs. Jack Evans

It’s odd seeing Jack Evans wrestling into his 40s. His style no longer matches his age group.

Evans then randomly starts working heel, trying to play to the diminishing crowd. I would have fucked off by now to be quite honest. It’s after 2am. Dynamite is way too small to be in this kind of match. Stick him in a scramble. He’s too slow getting into position for big spots, and the spots aren’t convincing because he’s too lightweight. Evans, by comparison, is quicker into position and way more impactful. Jack goes to the well on a second 450 Splash and Pat “gets knees up” (he didn’t) and cradles Evans to retain. Pat Dynamite had a stinker here. Very poor. *

The 411:

Mostly just multiple person scrambles and related crap. The injury to JGeorge derailed that match. PCO not turning up did create the finest match of the night with Manders battling his mate Tommy Shire to a good match. Shout out to the women in the four-way for doing some decent stuff. Otherwise, not a good show and entirely skippable.
