WRESTLEMANIA WEEK REVIEW #4
We’re at the Horseshow in Las Vegas. Hosts are Veda Scott & Val Capone. This was supposed to be my first show of Mania week but somehow, it’s ended up as number four. This is the first show from the Collective venue, and they’ve not even got the banners up in the background yet! It’s looking fairly empty.
Su Yung & Leva Bates vs. Joseline Navarro & Mazzarati
Fuckin’ BLUE PANTS? I was eating my dinner during this show, but I saw enough to tell you my thoughts. This was an embarrassment to professional wrestling. If I see a worse match this weekend, I will be shocked. -**
Amira & Lil Marz vs. Jazzy Yang & Toga
At least the baseline has gone up here. However, Amira and Toga have communication issues, culminating in Toga being out of position and clear air between an Amira dropkick and her chest. When you go to a women’s show, the kindness shown to the workers is significantly higher than on other shows. Toga is way better on offence and when Amira gives her a release German, she can showcase her bumping too. Toga beats Lil Marz with a Rock Bottom. The team with matching gear should have won, imo. *½
Vegas Boulevard Brawl
Nixi XS vs. Shazza MacKenzie

Nixi comes out in a wedding dress. The referee is dressed as Elvis.

Like, what are we doing here?

I’m screenshotting this so you can see how stupid this is. The timing on everything in this sucks. Nixi, while having an incredible look, doesn’t know when to move. She also can’t figure out a confetti cannon. This legitimately feels like a WWE attitude era match, booked by Vince McMahon. Only it would be Gerald Brisco vs. Pat Patterson. So, in a way, it’s a bonus that it’s better than Vince’s match. Nixi pulls drugs out of her bra???? The referee tells her that’s not allowed, and Shazza SNORTS THEM! Shazza’s version of being fired up on drugs is to move at half speed instead of quarter speed. They make a horrible mess of the finish and Nixi wins via bottle shot. -***½. Incredibly bad. We’re having an all-timer mess of a show here.
Izzy Moreno vs. Gypsy Mac vs. Brittnie Brooks

Everyone is babyface so Brittnie works heel. Gypsy baits Izzy a few times, which isn’t nice. You have to expect a rookie to be a little slower on the uptake. The match is plagued with poor timing. Izzy feels too green to be in the multis, and the timing of the other two isn’t great either. When they do get it together, which is now and then, it connects better than anything else so far. Brooks is supposed to slingshot in to break up a pin and almost falls on her arse. The timing issues continue, and Izzy steals a pin on Gypsy Mac. Yeah, this wasn’t good. Lots of potential here, but it just didn’t click. *
Production drops the ball on the post-match interview too. The cameraman moves too early off it finishing and the microphone doesn’t work. Sounds like a loose connection somewhere.
Kaia McKenna vs. Allie Katch
Having seen everyone else on this show shit the bed, they opt to keep things nice and basic. As I type that they make a mess of a sideslam. After the error they start working at half speed, as if trying to avoid another mistake. It’s not Allie. She does a good job of leading the match. McKenna is just too inexperienced to keep up. Allie has to feed her the spots, or charge in and bump for her. Allie takes it with a piledriver. This was ok-ish. *¾.
There are still six matches on this show. It’s been a painful journey so far.
Dani Mo, Emily Jaye & Rachel Ley vs. Journey Burke, Sirena Veil & Valentina Rossi
Emily Jaye’s opening slap on Rossi is better than everything else on this show put together. If it doubt, smack them in the face. That’s how pro-wrestling works. Marriage? Less so. Rachel Ley can do flippydos! Sirena Veil, who is extremely pale and sunlight deprived, has some cool character stuff and is tidy in the ring. We may have stumbled upon something good! They start struggling when there’s multiple people involved, especially Emily Jaye. She gets lost.

I’ve watched the finish, the “Seize the Ley”, three times in an attempt to explain it. It’s cool is what it is. Like a handstand off the top, with a flipover into a splash. **¾. So close to being genuinely good. Just lost the way a little in the second half. Rachel Ley is good, but my favourite here was Sirena Veil. Very good.
Alex Gracia vs. Aleah James

I’ve not seen Aleah since pre-WWE. I liked her then. She’s announced as being from “Essex, London”. Haha, what? For Americans reading, that’s like announcing someone as being from Louisiana, Houston or Connecticut, New York City. Aleah does a running bulldog, and Gracia doesn’t seem to know what’s coming and boy, does it look rough. Aleah takes some vicious bumps as Gracia works heel. Gracia has a delightful knee lift strike, which sets up the neckbreaker finish. Some decent stuff in here with the occasional flub. **¼
Still an hour to go on this show but thankfully matters are improving after a dreadful start.
Poder Championship
Brittany Blake (c) vs. Shotzi Blackheart
Shotzi is quickly in position for things here and is then waiting around for Blake to realise. Blake telegraphs a lot of stuff and is only effective in close contact. Some people just can’t dance without being led.

I lose count of the amount of times Shotzi is just stood there, or hanging in the ropes, waiting for Blake to do something. You can sense her frustrations when she wears Blake out with a kendo stick. Shotzi misses off the top, and Blake ties her up for the submission. Surprisingly vicious Singapore cane business aside, Blake felt off it. **
Carolina Cruz vs. Miranda Alize
Cruz is a relative newcomer, with only a few years experience. Alize, as the veteran, makes some odd choices. I get that she’s supposed to be leading the match, but it takes ages for a hope spot to appear. Cruz, eventually getting a chance to do something, doesn’t look capable of offence. Which makes Alize’s decisions make more sense. Cruz is athletic but has no impact on her spots at all. Shining Wizard finishes for Alize. This opportunity seemed to come a little early for Cruz. She didn’t look ready for it. *¼
Ladies Night Out Championship
Jazmin Allure (c) vs. Alejandra la Leona
We get some lucha influences here. Allure from Florida but family from Mexico. La Leona from El Salvador in central America. They both have some decent lucha basics. Allure looks further along, but she also telegraphs every Leona move by putting her hand up so early. Allure conjures up some weird looking finisher, which comms can’t tell me what it is. Allure looked way happier here than when I’ve seen her in with more conventional American talents. That lucha streak is within her. **
Charli Evans vs. Billie Starkz
Chevs going from pre-show to main event here. The match is quite short, so it feels like they’ve planned it spot by spot. Which means it flows quite well but also feels dancy. Evans is legitimately good here. She steams into her spots, full tilt boogie. I’ve always thought Billie struggled to keep up with anyone really good, and she basically lets Charlie beat her up here after early exchanges. Billie rolls through an Evans roll up for the pin. This was solid. **½. Really nice to see Charli Evans here and on form. This could have probably gone longer and not outstayed its welcome. Starkz took an ass kicking.
The 411:
Woof. Some dreadful stuff on this show. The opener was terrible, and the Las Vegas Boulevard Brawl will surely be the worst match this weekend. It can’t get worse than that, surely? 11 matches here and I think five of them were good enough to be on the show. That’s not a great hit rate. I’m glad there are all women’s shows on these weekends, don’t get me wrong. I am a big fan of women’s wrestling and women’s sport in general. That doesn’t mean a bad show gets a pass just because it’s a women’s show. There are bad women’s shows, and there are bad men’s shows.
